The Fairfax County School Board will host Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) fifth annual Education Summit, Mapping Your Student’s Unique Journey: Explore the Many Choices in Fairfax County Public Schools, on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 8 a.m. at Edison High School.
This free summit -- open to parents, students, teachers, and members of the community -- will focus on helping parents understand the programs and services available to students in grades K-12 so that they can take advantage of these opportunities to make the most of their child’s educational experience.
FCPS Superintendent Karen K. Garza will deliver a keynote address on Portrait of a Graduate, a framework for the skills each student should have by the time he or she graduates in order to be prepared for the future.
A panel of FCPS alumni, moderated by ABC7 anchor and reporter Jummy Olabanji, a graduate of Westfield High School, will be part of the summit. More than 20 exhibitors will provide information and resources to summit attendees.
Attendees can select from more than two dozen breakout sessions, including:
School readiness.
Overviews of advanced academic programs in elementary, middle, and high schools.
Parent strategies and roles to promote student learning.
FCPS Adult ESOL (English for speakers of other languages): Supporting Adult's Engagement With Schools.
Keeping Kids Safe in Today’s Digital World.

Technology Resources, Including Online Textbooks.
Sessions will also be offered on the Power of the Mindset; Empowered Families-Successful Children; Young Scholars program; fine arts opportunities; immersion and magnet schools; career and technical education and high school academies; Mountain View Alternative High School; after-school enrichment programs; college access and readiness for all; resources for academic advising; resources for career preparation; career and transition services for students with disabilities; considerations for students with disabilities in the college search; and parents as leaders within the home, school, and community.
