...Areas of Dense Fog Expected Overnight...
Fog was developing and becoming more widespread throughout the
Piedmont and Foothills of Virginia and North Carolina. With moist
ground from the widespread rainfall of Monday, light winds, and
cool temperatures, the fog is expected to become more widespread
and dense in some areas. This will especially be the case east of
the Blue Ridge.
A frontal system is expected to move into the area later tonight,
mainly after 4 AM EST, bringing showers and an isolated
thunderstorm into the area from the west. This precipitation area
and the associated increase in westerly winds will tend to break
up areas of dense fog, but likely will not reach areas east of the
Blue Ridge until after daybreak.
Conditions will be monitored closely throughout the night. If
widespread dense fog develops, a Dense Fog Advisory will likely be
needed later tonight for part or all of this area.
If traveling tonight and through the early morning hours Tuesday,
use low beam headlights in areas of fog, reduce speed, and allow
extra distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.
