From May 10-12, Centreville’s Kevin Whalen will bicycle 230 miles in the Police Unity Tour (PUT) Virginia ride. It raises money and awareness for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial fund and the National Law Enforcement Museum in Washington, D.C., honoring and remembering officers who’ve died in the line of duty.
Whalen, a federal agent with the U.S. Treasury Department, is riding this year in honor of Chris Yung, a Prince William County police motorcycle officer who was killed in a traffic accident in the line of duty on Dec. 31, 2012.
Last Thursday, April 25, Whalen held a fundraiser at Glory Days Grill in Centreville and raised $2,500. Washington Redskin and Westfield High grad Evan Royster was a guest bartender and pulled prizewinning raffle tickets.
Whalen’s last fundraiser is this Sunday, May 5, from 2-7 p.m., at JV's Restaurant in Falls Church. There’ll be live bands, and the Little White Fashion Truck will be in the parking lot. To donate toward Whalen’s ride, go to www.firstgiving.com and search for Whalen’s PUT Chapter IV Ride.
