The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 9 p.m. for Fairfax County and the entire National Capital Area. Thunderstorms, heavy rains, wind, large hail and potential flooding are also expected beginning this afternoon.

State PTA Volunteer of the Year
Del. Tim Hugo attended the April PTA meeting at Union Mill Elementary to present Kate Trussell with a proclamation from Gov. Bob McDonnell recognizing her as the Virginia PTA volunteer of the year. Hugo commended Trussell for coordinating our Bread Basket program that made over 11,000 sandwiches for Food for Others last year. As of this year, students at Union Mill have already made almost 13,000 sandwiches for Food for Others. Above, with Trussell are her husband, Jeff, and daughter, Sarah.

To the Editor: Aside from the domestic issues currently facing our nation, there are parts of the world experiencing unstable and volatile situations. Among the global issues is the human rights abuse observed in countries under totalitarian regimes, preventing the spread of democracy and liberty. In order for the United States to maintain a strong stance against human rights abuse, we must reelect Congressman Frank Wolf of Virginia’s 10th Congressional District.

Centreville High School’s Choral Department will present “Broadway Pops,” its final concert of the year, Thursday-Friday, June 7- 8, at 7:30 p.m., in the school’s Skip Maiden Theater. Tickets are $5 for adults at the door; students are free.

Westfield High will host the upcoming Virginia High School League (VHSL) State AAA Spring Sports Jubilee from Tuesday, June 5 through Saturday, June 9. The Spring Jubilee will determine state AAA champions in baseball, softball, boys' and girls' tennis, soccer, and lacrosse. Westfield High is located at 4700 Stonecroft Blvd. in Chantilly.
