Team ‘Robowiz’ Competes in Nationals
Rocky Run Middle School FIRST Lego League (FLL) Robotics team “Robowiz,” is one of two teams invited to represent the VA/DC Region, at the 2012 FLL World Open Invitational Championship in Legoland, Fla. from May 3-6, hosted by the University of South Florida, All Saints’ Academy, Legoland, Fla., and the technology sponsor AT&T Inc. Anyone can hold a 5K race early in the morning, but the Town of Clifton does things differently. Its 15th annual Clifton Caboose Twilight Run is Saturday, May 12, with the 1-mile fun run/walk starting at 6 p.m., and the 5K, at 6:30 p.m.
Clifton Celebrates Its 110th Birthday

With balloons, two cakes and a bench-dedication, residents gathered Saturday afternoon, April 21, in the town park to celebrate Clifton’s 110th birthday. Attendees included state Sen. George Barker (D-39th); Peter Noonan, FCPS Assistant Superintendent, Instructional Services, and former town Mayor Jim Chesley, all of whom live in Clifton.

The Westfield High girls’ softball team, over the final few weeks of the regular season, will be looking to get back into the winning mode that was such a prominent characteristic of its season through mid-April.
Chantilly Boys Break Into Soccer Win Column
Chargers get victories over Westfield and Mount Vernon.
The Chantilly High boys’ soccer team, following a 0-8 start to the season, won consecutive games last week. The Chargers, in a Concorde District outing at Westfield High last Thursday, April 26, defeated the Bulldogs, 4-0, for their first win of the season. And earlier this week on Monday, April 30, Chantilly, in overtime, won a non-district home game over Mount Vernon, 4-3.

In February, 2007, 59-year-old Robert Bruce Miller was found dead outdoors in Chantilly. Miller was homeless, known to businesses and residents in the area. He died of hypothermia, exposure to the cold.

Herndon High School hosted "The Perils of the College Drinking Culture" Tuesday, April 24, a forum discussing the consequences of alcohol use with students and parents in the community. The event, hosted by the Unified Prevention Coalition of Fairfax County, featured facts about the social, legal and physical consequences of alcohol use.

After being a part of two Northern Regional football titles, two state championships and six district crowns while serving as an assistant coach over the years at Concorde District high schools Westfield and Centreville, Brian Day, this past January, accepted the position as new head football coach at fellow Concorde rival Herndon High.

Area Welcomes Discovery
A famed pace Shuttle finds home in Chantilly.
The Washington area kept its eyes to the sky on Tuesday morning April 17, for a special over-flight by the Space Shuttle Discovery docked to its 747 carrier aircraft. The Discovery is moving to its new home at the Smithsonian’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly. The Discovery has flown 39 missions, spent 365 days in space, and was the longest-serving orbiter in NASA’s shuttle program.

Audition Workshop Set for Westfield Summer Stage
Westfield Summer Stage celebrates 12 years of summer musicals with the classic musical comedy, “Anything Goes,” to be performed in late July at Westfield High. Auditions will begin in a few weeks, so an audition workshop for prospective cast members will be held Monday, April 30, at 6:30 p.m., where material for the vocal and dance auditions will be taught.
