Bull Run Girls Checkmate National Competition
This past weekend, Bull Run Elementary School students won the All-Girls, 10 Years and Younger(10U), National Championship.
Team ‘Robowiz’ Competes in Nationals
Rocky Run Middle School FIRST Lego League (FLL) Robotics team “Robowiz,” is one of two teams invited to represent the VA/DC Region, at the 2012 FLL World Open Invitational Championship in Legoland, Fla. from May 3-6, hosted by the University of South Florida, All Saints’ Academy, Legoland, Fla., and the technology sponsor AT&T Inc. Chantilly Academy students competed in various hands-on skill and leadership competitions at the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference held in Hampton, Va. April 21.
It’s a Race and a Picnic
Clifton Caboose Twilight 5K is May 12.
Anyone can hold a 5K race early in the morning, but the Town of Clifton does things differently. Its 15th annual Clifton Caboose Twilight Run is Saturday, May 12, with the 1-mile fun run/walk starting at 6 p.m., and the 5K, at 6:30 p.m.
Clifton Celebrates Its 110th Birthday

With balloons, two cakes and a bench-dedication, residents gathered Saturday afternoon, April 21, in the town park to celebrate Clifton’s 110th birthday. Attendees included state Sen. George Barker (D-39th); Peter Noonan, FCPS Assistant Superintendent, Instructional Services, and former town Mayor Jim Chesley, all of whom live in Clifton.

Area’s first celebration is taking shape.
Promising fun for the whole family, the area’s first-ever Chantilly Day will burst upon the scene Saturday, May 12, at the Sully Place Shopping Center, off Route 50 West. There’ll be a parade, children’s activities, a car show, live music, food and entertainment galore.
Area Welcomes Discovery
A famed pace Shuttle finds home in Chantilly.
The Washington area kept its eyes to the sky on Tuesday morning April 17, for a special over-flight by the Space Shuttle Discovery docked to its 747 carrier aircraft. The Discovery is moving to its new home at the Smithsonian’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly. The Discovery has flown 39 missions, spent 365 days in space, and was the longest-serving orbiter in NASA’s shuttle program.
Centre View Roundups -- April 25
Smoking Materials Cause Fire Fairfax County fire investigators say “discarded smoking materials” caused an accidental townhouse fire, April 12, in Centreville. The incident occurred around 3:25 p.m. at 5213 Prairie Willow Way. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear and deck area of the three-story, end unit.
Fund-Raiser Planned for Animal Shelter
Wine-tasting event is May 5.
Like a Statue of Liberty for animals, the Fairfax County Animal Shelter is a place of refuge for animals needing care. They often arrive ill or injured, and many have been abused, neglected or abandoned.

On Thursday, April 26, Glory Days Grill — at 13850 Braddock Road in the Old Centreville Crossing Shopping Center — will host a Bartenders Night from 6-9 p.m.
Foster, Foltz To Be Honored

Volunteer Fairfax and Supervisor Pat Herrity will honor Ned Foster of Springfield District with a Community Champion award during the 20th Anniversary Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards sponsored by UnitedHealthcare.
