Faulty Furnace Causes Centreville House Fire

A fire Tuesday night, Nov. 17, caused an estimated $90,000 damage to a home in Centreville’s Virginia Run community. Firefighters responded around 8:39 p.m. to the 15200 block of Eagle Tavern Way and quickly extinguished a fire in the basement utility room of a two-story, single-family home.

Three people were home at the time, and one of them discovered the fire after smelling something burning. They evacuated before the fire department arrived, but their cat was found deceased. Fire Investigators determined the blaze was accidental, caused by a malfunction within the gas furnace. All three occupants were displaced.
